Terry Carlin Violin Maker

Soon after graduation from Gonzaga University, Terry Carlin obtained a certificate for mechanical engineering. From there she worked towards the architectural field, soon discovering her love of building. Combining her appreciation of great art with her passion for music, Terry decided to pursue the art of violin making and enrolled as a full-time student at the Violin Making School of America.

Following graduation from this four year school, Terry served her apprecticeship for several years before opening her own violin shop in Cleveland, Ohio. As her business increased, she moved to the historic Littly Italy neighborhood of Cleveland, which has become a destination for artists, fine restaurants, and great music. Her shop is now located in the Murray Hill Galleries. The studio is near both Severance Hall, home of the Cleveland Orchestra, and the equally famous Cleveland Institute of Music.

A chance meeting in the spring of 1998 led to a 10 year association with renowned bow maker, Rodney D. Mohr. Rodney is a graduate of the Chicago School of Violin Making. A member of the Violin Society of America, he has been designated "hors concours" (honors conquered), having won three gold medals.

In the summer, Rodney teaches bow restoration at the Violin Society of America Workshop; a weeklong course held at Oberlin College. He is also a member and past president of the American Federation of Violin and Bow Makers. Rodney is in the studio on Tuesdays for same-day rehair service and consultation upon appointment. This would be a great chance to try one of his world famous bows!
